THE LALASA BAG
THE LALASA BAG
This bag is made out of Handira which is more commonly known as a Moroccan Wedding Blanket. The Handira is woven by hand out of cotton, linen and sheep’s wool by Berber bride-to-be and her female relatives while teaching her what it means to be a wife. It takes hours and even weeks, to attach each mirrored sequin once the blanket itself is woven. The bride traditionally wears the blanket after the wedding ceremony as a cape. For Berbers, everything they do comes with a purpose. The hand weaving process is thought to endow the textile with blessings. It is meant to ward off evil, bestow fertility and good luck to the newlyweds. Your bag comes from a vintage Handira sourced from the Middle Atlas, it is cut and sewn into bags by local women in their homes in Marrakech. No one blanket is the same, making each bag a piece of history that is so unique to it’s own. These bags make excellent statement accessory. Each blanket yields only a limited number of unique bags so you are guaranteed something very special.
Each bag measures 11 inches across and 8 inches in height and is fully lined. Pom pom included.
DISCLAIMER: Note that the bags will differ slightly from the pictures due to the nature of each Handira. The bags have pinkish/reddish small patches on them that are not removable as they come from natural dyes of the kilim that is at the back of the blanket (which is already covered by the lining of each bag). These patches give more character to each bag, making them even more unique than they already are. The patches are very small and not obvious, they are usually hidden under the sequins. We are unable to do returns for all love bags unless it is a defect with the zip or lining.
